Stay Cool

It is not your imagination – this summer has been hot. Record-breaking temperatures make it necessary to pay attention to signs that your body is becoming dehydrated. When it is especially hot, try to limit your activity to the mornings and evenings when it is cooler and the sun is lower in the sky. Stick to shady paths for walks and runs, and do not wait until you feel thirsty to reach for your water. Also, be mindful of your clothing. Lightweight, loose and light-colored clothing lets your sweat evaporate and cool your body.

Eat Right

Summer is the best time to find fresh produce, so take advantage of the season by enjoying refreshing salads, berries, watermelon and anything else you can find at your local farmer’s market or roadside stand.

If you are using the grill to cook meats, it is a good time for a refresher course on food safety. Handling raw meats can result in spreading bacteria, so make sure that you wash your hands thoroughly and properly disinfect surfaces, cutting boards and utensils to avoid cross-contamination. Also, remember that foods left out spoil more quickly, so avoid food poisoning by ensuring that foods are kept at their proper temperatures.

Keep Your Skin Safe

Unless your tan came from a bottle, there is no such thing as a healthy tan. As you are enjoying the outdoors, do not forget to protect your skin. The majority of skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and tanning beds.

While you should be wearing sunscreen every day throughout the year, it is especially important to remember this skincare staple in the summer, when the sun’s rays are more intense. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF value of at least 15. Ideally, you should reapply sunscreen every two hours. This is especially important if you are swimming or sweating.

Sunscreen is an effective measure against damage from the sun, but by itself, it may not be enough to protect your skin. Along with sunscreen, opt for lightweight long-sleeved shirts and pants, a broad-brimmed hat and sunglasses when you will be outside for an extended period of time.

What is Subrogation?

Even if it’s been determined that you definitely are not responsible for the accident, you can file a claim under your own comprehensive coverage and pay your deductible. Then, because it’s the financial responsibility of the at-fault driver and their insurer to get you back to pre-accident condition, your insurance company would use subrogation to file a claim with the other insurance company. This will allow them to get back any money paid out for repairs, including your deductible.
