Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

Home > Medicare Health Insurance > Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) is Private Health Insurance

1). You can choose your own doctors and hospitals (that accept Medicare) without worrying about “Networks” or “Referrals” anywhere in the country.

2). With a Medicare Supplement Plan F, you won’t have co-pays or deductibles. You only have your premium to worry about each month, keeping your medical expenses predictable. No surprises with medical expenses.

3). You can purchase a Medicare Supplement plan (Medigap) ANY time of the year (see below for details).

4). Insurance companies can charge different rates for the exact same plan.

5). Medigap plans generally require a separately purchased drug plan.

What is a Medicare Supplement Plan?

Medicare Supplemental Insurance (Medigap) is a great way to protect yourself from major medical expenses. Medigap policies help pay some of the health care costs (“gaps”) that original Medicare doesn’t cover (like co-payments, coinsurance, and deductibles).

If you have original Medicare and a Medigap policy, Medicare will pay its share of the Medicare-approved amounts for covered health care costs. Then your Medigap policy pays its share.

Every Medigap policy must follow Federal and state laws designed to protect you and the policy must be clearly identified as “Medicare Supplement Insurance.” Medigap insurance companies in most states can only sell you a “standardized” Medigap policy identified by letters A through N.

Each standardized Medigap policy must offer the same basic benefits, no matter which insurance company sells it. Cost is the only difference between Medigap policies with the same letter (A-N) sold by different insurance companies.

♦ With a Medicare Supplement plan F, your deductibles and co-payments are paid for so you don’t have to worry about making ANY out of pocket payments. All services are covered.

You Can Purchase a Medicare Supplement Plan Any Time of the Year

To keep getting the lowest prices year after year, you need to shop around and can do this at ANY TIME of the year. Many policy holders may look around for less expensive plans when they get a notice of a rate increase. You DO NOT have to wait to shop during Medicare Advantage’s Annual Enrollment Period from October 15th to December 7th each year. These dates do not apply to Medicare “Supplement” plans.

That’s why we are here…let us help you shop and find the best prices.

Note: If you are not in your Open Enrollment period, you will have to apply and will be asked some additional health questions.

What is “Open Enrollment”?

When you sign up for Medicare Part B, your Medigap Open Enrollment Period begins. You’ll have a one-time only (6 month period) that you are guaranteed the right to buy a Medicare Supplement plan. For most folks this Open Enrollment Period starts the first month you turn 65 years old AND enroll into Medicare Part B. If you or your spouse has coverage through an employer and you’ve delayed signing up for Part B, your Open Enrollment Period won’t start until you’ve enrolled into Part B.

Choose Your Own Doctor!

Your coverage is good across the country

With a Medicare Supplement plan, you can choose your own doctors and hospitals without worrying about “Networks”. You can see any provider or go to any hospital in the country that accepts Medicare. No referrals necessary.

If you don’t like worrying about finding a doctor in your network, if you don’t like being restricted to your local area in which you live to find or see a doctor, or if you travel, a Medicare Supplement plan could be a perfect fit for you! You only need to find a doctor that accepts Medicare and you are good to go.

With Medicare Supplement plans, there is not a person in some office deciding if they’ll cover a bill. If Medicare pays, the supplement plan “supplements” the bill. Period.

Medicare Supplement plans change as original Medicare changes, so you don’t have to worry about yearly contracts or plans changing like they can with a Medicare Advantage Part C plan.

Constant and Predictable Medical Expenses

Would you like to have constant and predictable medical expenses? A Medicare Supplement plan may be for you.

If you don’t want to worry about co-pays or deductibles and want to only worry about your monthly premium without other medical expenses, then a Medicare Supplement Plan F may be for you.

With a Medicare Supplement Plan F, you would pay your monthly premium and that’s it. No co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, etc. You just pay your monthly premium and see any doctor in the country that takes Medicare. Your monthly costs are always the same (premium only) and that can really be a benefit for folks on a strict budget. You’ll need a prescription drug plan purchased separately.

Insurance companies Can Charge Different Rates

for the exact same Medicare Supplement plan with identical coverage

If you buy a Medicare Supplement plan F from insurance company A or insurance company B, the basic coverage is identical; the only difference would be the piece of plastic in your wallet, customer service, and the price you pay! The policy from ANY insurance company would be identical (the government regulates this). This applies to ANY plan A-N.

That’s why we are here…let us help you shop and find the best prices.
